Sunday 6th May – Knobbing it in Cattistock

Tom, Lindsay and Pete T took advantage of a fair-weather window and an early start to put in some practice for August’s forthcoming Brittany expedition.  So lots of hills, the variable road surfaces of West Dorset and 32 miles covered.

A quick car transfer took the merry trio to Toller Porcorum,  (the historical translation of “River of The Pigs” clearly referred to today’s Peloton Picnic), and into the first of many medium-sized ascents. Eggardon Hill, Powerstock, West Milton, Mangerton, Bridport, Waytown, (deer in the field) Netherbury (worth a return visit for the church on the hill), Beaminster for town centre picnic stop, rough uphill track along Wessex Ridgeway to Buckham Down (panoramic views to coast) , a wizz down to Corscombe, then along NC 26 route to Rampisham, Cattistock (preparations underway for Knob Throwing event – how twee is Dorset?), Chilfrome, Tollerford and back to Toller Porcorum.  Back to car for 11:30 am, right on schedule!

Great ride in sunny (but chilly) climes. Link to route on Cycle-Route.com here.
