Sunday 9th September – time trial mode to Wareham and back

Chilly 7:15 start, but clear skies and sunshine in Dorchester. Tom and both Petes were intrigued by what Lindsay meant by “flat”, so the route was voted to be east from Dorchester, NCN route 2 to Wareham, then back along the tank road.

So without any hills to be factored in it was heads down out to West Stafford, mainly to try and keep warm.  A fair bit of social catching up needed as this was the first fair-sized peloton for weeks. Delightful new route for Pete T through Moreton, Wool and back road towards Wareham.  One navigational error so Stoborough got missed out.

Top notch picnic at the quay watching hung over chaps pretending they knew how to crew a boat…. yeah right. Grapper, pork pies, iced buns and crunchy cakes from Maria, the usual fayre, all came out of the musettes. Back along the tank road to Gallows Hill and a call in to see the Gliding Club.  No thermals there either…..

Rest of lanes spent being silly overtaking and pretending we were any good on a bike, oh and ringing bells in unison.  Back in Dorchester for a cat 5 climb through town and a bunch sprint finish. Home for 10:30 ish. 37 miles, 2.5 hrs cycling, so averaging about 14 mph. All good stuff, mainly through good weather and a purposeful pacy ride.
