Sunday 2nd August 2015 – Circuit Poundbury to Frome St Quintin and Wessex ridgeway

Pete2 set off of this ride, its a pretty familiar route for us, takes us along the Frome through Bradford Abas, up to Maiden Newton, Cattistock and Frome St Quintin within the first hour. Its a mixture of tracks and quiet roads. From Frome St Quintin, we climb a steep track which leads up to cross the A37 and head towards Batcombe on the top road. without losing height we then take the trail that leads to the Wessex ridgeway heading due South. We had a bit of bramble trouble for the first 10 minutes, but then the track opens out. A farmer had covered the low parts of the track with some quite sharp stones ( flint type), it wasn’t all that pleasant for a mile or so, but we didn’t puncture, stopped for a snack at the communication mast and continued South on the trail towards Stratton. At the memorial cross, we turn left and then right, and were stopped by a farmer type who told us it was a private road. Next time we must go straight on at the cross and the bridle way heads down into Stratton apparently.
